U-20 COSAFA PERFORMANCE DISAPPOINTS MUTAPA
By Chansa Kunda:
Zambia Under 20 Mens’ football team Coach Perry Mutapa says he is disappointed with the overall performance of the team at the just ended 2020 Cosafa cup tournament.
Mutapa who took over the coaching gloves from his elder brother Osward Mutapa who guided the team to victory in last year’s edition says it was unfortunate that the team could not live up to expectations.
He says the team’s game plan was to qualify for the 2021 Mauritius U-20 AFCON and defend the title.
Mutapa says despite losing to Mozambique 5-4 on post-match penalties in the semifinals, the team had adequately prepared of their opponents.
Mutapa who is also coach for Power Dynamos Football Club says the team could have done much better owing to Mozambique having had a player sent off.
He says Prince Mumba, being named player-of-the-tournament shows the good qualities the team has despite finishing fourth.
And Under-20 Captain Prince Mumba says receiving the accolade has boosted his confidence levels.
Mumba says he deservedly worked hard to become this year’s recipient and win a trip to Spain for an experience with leading Spanish top side Villarreal CF, courtesy of La Liga Santander.
Meanwhile, the team has arrived back in the country from South Africa.
