UK ANNOUNCES 9 MILLION POUNDS SUPPORT TO ZAMBIA

The United Kingdom -UK- Government has committed nine million pounds in support of Zambia’s education sector and Small and Medium Sized businesses.
The UK Government says it will provide 7 million pounds to girls’ education funding to build and expand schools reaching 70 thousand children in Zambia.
The funding is designed to increase secondary school places through new and extended schools.
The UK Government will also provide 2 million pounds of investments funds for small-and-medium-sized enterprises -SMEs- to deliver green growth and cope with the impact of Covid-19.
This will be delivered through the UK Government’s local partner Prospero.
This came to light during a meeting between President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA and UK Minister for Africa JAMES DUDDRIDGE where the two discussed how the UK and Zambia could continue to develop a mutually beneficial relationship.
The two discussed topics ranging from climate change, building stronger trade and economic links between the two countries.
This is contained in a press release issued by the Press and Public Affairs Section of the British High Commission in Lusaka today.
And speaking during a media briefing, Mr. DUDDRIDGE congratulated Zambia for the smooth transition saying that such transitions have not always happened around the world.
He said only 24 smooth transitions have taken place in Africa since 1990 with 3 of those being in Zambia.
Mr. DUDDRIDGE said it was a great privilege for him to meet with President HICHILEMA and discuss his priority areas and how the UK Government can assist.
He said one of the critical areas discussed is delivering of business, growth and employment opportunities for Zambians through trade within the region as well as the international community.
Mr. DUDDRIDGE said growing the Zambian economy is the next critical component to setting the country on the right path.
