UNWTO Tips Tourism Sector On Covid-19

The United Nations World Tourism Organization -UNWTO- has urged the global tourism sector to devise effective measures aimed at containing the COVID-19 outbreak.
This follows a collaborative meeting held between UNWTO and the World Health Organization(WHO) to address respective sector response to the ongoing Coronavirus outbreak.
In a letter addressed to Tourism Minister Ronald Chitotela, UNWTO Secretary General Zurab Pololikashvili said there is need for governments to effectively highlight the importance of the ongoing high-level communication between tourism and the public health sector.
He said it is also important to embrace international cooperation and solidarity and recognize that the tourism sector can play an integral part in containing the virus.
Dr. Pololikashvili disclosed that UNWTO and WHO will soon hold a virtual meeting with the chairs of the UNWTO Regional Commissions together with chair of the Executive Council and key stakeholders from across the tourism sector.
And WHO- Director General Tedros Adhanom expressed gratitude for the support the tourism sector has continued to render in addressing the spread of the virus.
This is according to a statement made available to ZNBC News in Lusaka by Ministry of Tourism and Arts Public Relations Officer Sakabilo Kalembwe.
