VEEP HAILS GERMAN OVER SUPPORT
By Sharon Kunda:
Vice President Inonge Wina has praised the German Government for giving Zambia 19 point 2 million United States dollars towards the COVID 19 crisis.
Mrs. Wina says Zambia is grateful to Germany for the support to the Country’s social economic development.
She was speaking during a virtual meeting with German Ambassador to Zambia Ackim Burkat who launched the German funded Project ‘Building Resilience of Drought affected Households in Zambia’.
The funding will help farmers affected by drought to rebuild their livelihood and strengthen their resilience.
Mrs. Wina said the resilience and crisis response to support small scale farmers, school going children and refugees will go a long way into mitigating the hardships faced by the affected communities.
And Mr. Burkart said the German Government has further given Zambia 7 point 8 million United States dollars to support about 1 hundred and 4 smallholder farmers in Kalomo, Gwembe, Monze, Sioma and Shang’ombo districts.
Mr. Burkat said part of the money will go towards mitigating the impacts of COVID 19 and ensure continued basic services as well as lifesaving support.
The German envoy said his Government will provide an additional 2 point 2 million United States Dollars to support the nutrition of school going children and another 2 point 1 million United States Dollars to refugee response.
Mr. Burkat, who is winding up his tour of duty to Zambia, assured Mrs. WINA of his Government’s continued support to mitigate difficult times that may arise in future.
