VEEP WANTS BETTER ARTS, CULTURE
Vice President Inonge Wina says government will continue supporting events that contribute to the development and promotion of local creative industries for the betterment of the arts and cultural sector.
Mrs Wina said a well developed and managed arts and cultural sector can largely contribute to the economic diversification agenda of the country through cultural tourism.
She said this in a speech read for her by Tourism and Arts Minister, Charles Banda, during the 4th Edition of the Pamodzi Carnival held in Lusaka today.
Ms Wina noted that apart from being a cultural and entertainment occasion, the carnival is also a platform capable of creating income generating opportunities for artists and cultural practitioners through the sale of artistic and food products.
The Vice President added that the Pamodzi Carnival is aimed at showcasing Zambia’s traditional music and dance repertoires as well as creating a unique cultural tourism product through entertainment among other issues.
And Ms Wina further noted that through events such as the Pamodzi Carnival, the tenets of peace, love and oneness as outlined by President Edgar Lungu can easily be achieved as the occasion is an attraction to all Zambians regardless of one’s ethnic, religious or political affiliation.
The Pamodzi Carnival is an annual cultural and tourism event that brings together all the ten provinces to showcase their different cultures through various traditional performances.
