VICTORIA FALLS CARGO RESTRICTION WELCOME
By Angela Limwanya
The Livingstone Tourism Association-LTA has welcomed government’s move to restrict commercial cargo and goods in excess of 16 tonnes from using the Victoria Falls Bridge effective 1st march 2021.
LTA Acting Board Chairperson, Hilary Kashempa says restricting commercial cargo volumes is a good measure to preserve the life span of the historical Victoria Falls Bridge.
Speaking at a media briefing in Livingstone, Mr. Kashempa said the move will also help decongest the border which will help lessen the time tourists spend at the facility.
But Livingstone City Mayor Eugene Mapuwo said the restriction of some commercial cargo at the Victoria Falls border will disadvantage clearing agents who depend on that business for their livelihood.
Meanwhile, Victoria Falls Border Clearing Association Chairperson Silver Muyakwi alleged that most clearing agents will be out of employment because other goods will be rechanneled to use rail.
