Virtual Farmers Summit Set For August

Zambia is scheduled to hold the first ever ‘Meet the Farmers Virtual Summit’ aimed at giving farmers an opportunity to exchange knowledge on good agricultural practices and technologies.
Agriculture Minister Michael Katambo says the summit will take place from August 25 to 27, 2020 and is designed to bring farmers and other agricultural value chain players on one virtual platform.
Speaking during the media launch in Lusaka, Mr. Katambo said the Summit will link farmers and various input suppliers, in Zambia and the region.
He said Government fully supports and endorses the initiative by Africa’s Zambia, Image Promotions and other private sector players who have come on board.
Mr. Katambo said understanding modern agricultural practices and technologies is vital in boosting production and productivity.
He said the upcoming Summit complements Government’s policy to facilitate access to markets for all farmers in the country.
Mr. Katambo appealed to the organisers of the event to put in place a mechanism to support and encourage the participation of many small scale farmers.
And Co-Project Director for Meet the Farmers Virtual Summit and Exhibition, Chimwemwe Nyirenda said the concept of the Summit is to ensure stakeholders have an interface with farmers especially small scale farmers.
Mr. Nyirenda said the Summit will aim at achieve among other things, providing access to markets and information for the farmers.
