WERE SETS RECORD AT ZESCO UNITED
By Robert Mwanza:
Zesco United football club is two points away from bagging their ninth title as striker Jesse Were sets a record of scoring his 100th career goal for the club.
This is after the Kenyan import striker scored a hattrick for the Ndola giants this afternoon to propel the electricity boys to a four-nil thumping of whipping boys, Kitwe United.
This was in a week 24 fixture played at the Levy Mwanawasa stadium in Ndola this afternoon.
Coming from a three-nil whitewash at the hands of Prison Leopards in the mid-week, Zesco showed intent to win as early as eighth minute with WERE opening the flood gates after he tapped in a Winston Kalengo’s pin point cross into the sixteen yard box.
Were registered his second in the 31st minute after benefiting from a superb Winstone Kalengo’s pass.
Were turned provider for Kalengo in the 37th minute to make it three goals to nil.
After some interchange of passes among Bruce Musakanya, Thaban Kamusoko and Kalengo, Were soared into the box in a solo move to complete his hattrick of the day.
The four-nil bashing of poor Buchi Boys has moved Zesco United to 61 points only needing two points to be declared champions of the Zambian super league.
For Kitwe United, there was nothing much they could do as they are already relegated.
