ZAMBIA LOST AN OPPORTUNITY TO AMEND CONSTITUTION-SIKOTA
Prominent Lawyer SAKWIBA SIKOTA says Zambians have lost an opportunity to amend the Constitution due to the collapse of the Constitution Amendment Bill number 10 of 2019.
Mr. SIKOTA says the bill had progressive clauses such as allocation of certain parliamentary seats to women and youths.
He has however described the collapse of the Constitution Amendment Bill number 10 of 2019 as democratic.
Mr. SIKOTA says as part of democracy, a Constitution Bill that lacks consensus can either pass or fail.
He was speaking in an interview with ZNBC News in Lusaka today.
The Constitution Amendment Bill number 10 of 2019 collapsed in Parliament last Thursday as it could not pass the Second Reading Stage.
Parliamentarians that voted in favour of the bill did not garner the two thirds majority threshold for the smooth passage of the bill.
