
ZAMBIA SHOULD ADD VALUE TO MINERALS – KABUSWE
Zambia is failing to derive full benefits from the mining sector because of the lack of capacity to add value to minerals locally.
Mines Minister PAUL KABUSWE says Zambians are NOT getting a fair share of the mineral wealth that the country is endowed with.
Mr. KABUSWE says Government wants to see more Zambians who can run Mines take up the challenge as participation of citizens in the value chain is critical.
He said this in Lusaka today during a Mining conference organized by the Leadership Conferences Foundation.
Mr. KABUSWE said government wants to see more Public-Private Partnerships in the Mining sector.
He said this is why his ministry has embarked on policy, legal and institutional reforms to revitalize the mining sector.
And former Commerce, Trade and Industry Minister, ROBERT SICHINGA said it is wrong for the country NOT to nationalize the Mines.
Mr. SICHINGA also called for a comprehensive audit of the Mining sector.
