Zambia’s champions, Zesco United football club has crashed out of the CAF confederations cup after they lost to rivals Nkana football club by three goals to nil in the match day five of the tournament played in Kitwe this afternoon.
Zesco’s crashing out of the continental championship was compounded by a one all draw between Asante Kotoko and Al Hilal in the other group C fixture played this evening in Ghana.
Nkana now needs to avoid a loss in Sudan praying that Zesco do a favour by beating Asante Kotoko at the Levy Mwanawasa stadium in a weeks’ time.
In the game of two halves, Zesco dominated the first half but failed to convert all their chances into goals.
However, Nkana had other plans in the second half as Kelvin Kampamba benefited from Harrison Chisala’s pin point cross and scored with a curling cracker in the 64th minute to completely beat ZESCO goal minder and captain Jacob Banda.
Chisala had just come on for 2012 AFCON Winner Chisamba Lungu who just lasted for a minute on the pitch before he injured himself and was stretched out.
Ronald Sate Sate Kampamba put Nkana’s win beyond Zesco as he scored the second in the 85th minute from a clearance error by the Zesco defence.
Shadreck Musonda made sure that Nkana maintains the 100 percent home ground record in this year’s competition with a third goal in the 89th minute.
The CAF confederation CUP group C standings sees Nkana on top with Nine points followed by Al Hilal on eight points while Asante Kotoko is third on seven points with Zesco United rooted at the bottom on four points.
The next fixtures will see Zesco hosting Asante Kotoko at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium while Nkana will be away to Al Hilal in Sudan in a week’s time.
