Minister of Livestock and Fisheries, Michael Katambo says Zambia has not recorded any cases of the Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza -HPAI-, commonly known as Bird Flu, since its reported outbreak in some countries.
Mr. Katambo says some of the neighbouring countries have however continued to record cases.
He told Parliament in a Ministerial statement that Zambia is not considered to still be at high risk of the disease.
Mr. Katambo has advised the public to report any high mortality of domestic birds to the Veterinary Department.
He also said bird owners must house their poultry to avoid interaction between domestic and wild birds.
Mr. Katambo stated that the ban on poultry and poultry product imports from infected countries will continue until the oubreak in those countries is resolved.
