President Edgar Lungu has directed the Ministry of Agriculture to pay farmers that supplied maize to the Food Reserve Agency -FRA- last year before Tuesday April 16, this year.
President Lungu says the Ministry of Agriculture should engage the Ministry of Finance to ensure funds are made available and that the farmers must be paid on Monday April 15.
The Head of State made the directive when he officially opened the 2019 Agritech Expo Zambia in Chisamba District.
And President Lungu has also directed the Ministry of Agriculture to urgently start the distribution of farming inputs under 2019-2020 Agriculture season to farmers before the onset of the rains.
The President said early distribution of inputs will enable farmers prepare adequately following dry spell which was experienced in some parts of the country.
Meanwhile, the Zambia National Farmers Union -ZNFU- has implored Government to de-registered all Agro dealers across the country.
ZNFU President Jervis Zimba says Government should come up with new rules and conditions for one to qualify as an Agro dealer.
And, Minister of Agriculture Michael Katambo said the Ministry has blacklisted most Agro dealers and that some of them are appearing before the courts for various offenses.
