The Patriotic Front says it has information of a planned conspiracy to sabotage the Dialogue Bill on Constitutional Amendments by an opposition politician, a cleric and some civil society organizations.
PF Media Director Sunday Chanda says the party is aware that the said politician and his conspirators secretly invited a known professor from East Africa, with whom they had a secret meeting at a lodge on the outskirts of Lusaka last week.
Mr. Chanda says the scheme target is to get the Law Association of Zambia and others to join in their desperate crusade to sabotage constitutional reforms, including amendments to the Public Order Act.
He has wondered why anyone would seek to fight a bill that seeks to give a legal framework such as dialogue.
The PF Media Director says government has demonstrated good will by giving an opportunity to amend the Public Order Act to ensure it conforms with modern day democratic practices.
Mr. Chanda says the bill will also facilitate the implementation of the Siavonga resolutions of political parties relating to the constitutional and institutional reforms, separation of powers and judicial independence, tolerance, freedom of assembly and civility in politics and electoral reforms.
He has called on members of parliament regardless of political affiliation and all stakeholders to put national interests ahead of partisan interests and personal ambition.
This is contained in a statement availed to ZNBC news in Lusaka by Mr. Chanda.
