The ruling Patriotic Front -PF- has scooped the Bahati parliamentary seat and the Chilyapa Ward by-election in Mansa Central Constituency with landslide victories.
PF Bahati Parliamentary candidate Chales Chalwe beat four opposition candidates to be declared winner.
Returning Officer Brian Lubumbe declared Mr Chalwe, a local businessman, winner at 04:15 hour this morning.
Mr Chalwe polled eleven thousand four hundred and eighty-one votes while UPND’s Justine Bwalya got two thousand three hundred and eighty-one votes.
UPPZ candidate Clement Mwila polled one thousand three hundred and thirty-seven votes.
Emmanuel Chabwe of FDD got two hundred and five votes while PAC candidate Isaac Lukwesa polled one hundred and seventy-six votes.
Mr. Lubumbe declared Mr Chalwe winner after results from 52 of the 55 Polling Stations were tallied.
The returning officer said even if the remaining results from three polling stations were given to the closest candidate, they would not beat Mr Chalwe’s votes.
And Mr. Chalwe said he will hit the ground running.
He said he has no time for honeymoon because Bahati Constituency has many challenges.
And the National Democratic Congress – NDC candidate Joseph Chishala has won the Roan Parliamentary by elections.
Returning officer Emmauel Makulila announced the results of the 43 polling stations at 02:10 in the early hours of today and declared Mr. Chishala duly elected MP.
The NDC candidate won the roan seat after pouring eight thousand six hundred and sixty five votes beating his closest rival Joel Chibuye of the Patriotic front with five thousand five hundred thirty three votes.
Speaking after being declared winner, Joseph Chishala says he will work with the people of roan to bring development in the area.
Meanwhile, Governance, Elections, Advocates Research Services – GEARS executive director McDonald Chipenzi has bemoaned the low voter turnout in the just ended elections.
Mr. Chipenzi has further called on the Electoral Commission of Zambia – ECZ to update it’s votes registrar before conducting elections .
