The Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock has temporarily halted the transit of trucks ferrying poultry in Zambia.
The measure is aimed at avoiding the spread of bird flu recorded in some countries in the region.
Minister of Livestock and Fisheries Michael Katambo disclosed this in an interview with ZNBC News in Lusaka.
Mr Katambo said government will not allow bird flu outbreaks in the neighbouring countries to destroy poultry investments in Zambia.
He emphasised that Government has stopped giving permits for bird and poultry products importation from South Africa, Zimbabwe and the Democratic Republic of Congo due to the bird flu outbreak.
The Poultry industry in Zambia produces two million eggs and over 16 million chicks per day.
