Works to connect Luangwa and Rufunsa Districts to the National Grid have advanced.
Government through ZESCO is spending over 63 million dollars on the project which involves the setting up of the transmission line from the newly installed Chongwe substation to Rufunsa District.
ZESCO Spokesperson Henry Kapata says the 33 kilo volts transmission line which runs from Chongwe substation to Rufunsa District will enhance the economic value of the District.
Mr. Kapata says ZESCO through Rufunsa District Office has already issued over 200 application forms to people expected to be connected once the works are complete.
He has also disclosed that by 2018 the utility company had connected over 7 Thousand people to electricity in Chongwe District as a result of the newly installed 52mva Chongwe substation.
Mr. Kapata further said the utility company expects the number of clients in the district to increase by 2 Thousand this year owing to increase in economic activities.
