Serenje district in Central province is expected to record a bumper harvest of maize this year following government’s timely delivery of farming inputs in the area.
Government has contracted Nyimba Investments to deliver inputs to farmers under the farmer input support programme for the 2018/2019 agriculture season in Serenje.
And Nyimba Investments Marketing Manager Willings Mulendema has confirmed that his firm has already distributed to farmers hundred percent of fertilizer for this year’s farming season with all beneficiaries receiving the inputs.
Mr. Mulendema also says his company has already started strategising for the 2019/2020 farming season.
And Serenje district agriculture coordinator Jocab Shawa has also confirmed that the timely delivery of farmer inputs by government through Nyimba investments coupled with good rains, the district will record a good yield this year.
Mr. Shawa adds that over 200 cooperatives in the districts have all received fertilizer so far.
He adds that the only challenge is mainly in the hands of farmers on transporting the commodity to their respective areas.
