Kitwe based Football Analyst Patrick Tembo has backed calls by the Zambia Football Coaches Association for Chipolopolo boys coach Sven Vendenbroeck to appoint an assistant coach.
Tembo said appointing an Assistant Coach is long overdue and the position should go to a senior local coach.
He told ZNBC Sports News in Kitwe that Sven needs help from a local coach who understands Zambian football and players to be successful with his campaign at national level.
Tembo said government has made it clear that in future the position of national team coach should be taken over by a Zambian and that time to start training them for the top job is now.
He said Sven’s lack of an Assistant was exposed during his first competitive game during the 2019 Afcon qualifier match against Namibia last Saturday.
Tembo urged the Chipolopolo boys coach to quickly assemble a strong technical bench for the remaining must win games.
The National team Coach will next face Guinea in a must win match to revive the Chipolopolo’s chances of qualifying to the 2019 AFCON.
Zambia is currently bottom of group K with just one point, Namibia is third while Guinea and Mozambique are joint leaders.
