Education authorities on the Copperbelt have cancelled a Valentine’s Day event which was scheduled to be held at Parklands Secondary School in Kitwe.
Newly appointed Copperbelt Provincial Education Standards Officer Allan Kaoma has directed management at the school to cancel the event following an outcry by parents.
Mr. Kaoma, who is the immediate past Kitwe District Education Board Secretary, has urged Parklands Secondary School to immediately issue a statement to rescind the decision to hold the Valentine’s Day event on Thursday.
On seventh February, Parklands Secondary School Head teacher Caroline Marumo issued a statement urging parents to allow their children to wear black and red on the day.
Dr Marumo stated that parents of those pupils who will wear the Valentine’s day colours will pay five Kwacha while those who will come in normal uniforms will be made to pay 10 Kwacha.
