VEEP asks China to help Zambia in energy sector


Vice President Inonge Wina has asked China to help Zambia in the energy sector.


Mrs. Wina says there is need for Zambia to develop her nuclear energy potential in order to speed up development.


ZANIS reports that the Vice President said this after touring Dongfang Electric Corporation (DEC) in Chengdu, China on her continued official working visit.


She said there is need for the nation to explore nuclear energy as an alternative source in order to meet the rising demand for power in areas such as mining and manufacturing.


Dongfang Electric which was established in 1958, is China’s and one of the world’s leading power generation equipment manufacturing company with markets across the globe.


The multi-billion dollar firm that specialises in hydro, thermal, nuclear power projects among others, also supplied the two 150 megawatts power generation equipment at Maamba thermal.


And President of Dongfang Electric Corporation Zou Lie said his company will consider Zambia’s request for assistance to develop nuclear power.
