The Zambian Government has signed a grant agreement with KWF of Germany worth 333 million Kwacha to support the sustainable access to electricity Project and Access Component Project in Southern Division Project.
KWF of Germany will provide 211 million Kwacha to finance the Sustainable Access to Electricity in Southern Division Component Project.
And the European Union -EU- through KWF will provide 122 million Kwacha for the implementation of the ‘Access Component ‘ Project to be implemented by ZESCO.
Signing on behalf of the Zambian Government, Minister of Finance, Margaret Mwanakatwe said under the Sustainable Access to Electricity Project, funds will go towards the rehabilitation and reinforcement of selected power transmission and distribution infras
ructure in the Southern Division of Zambia.
Mrs. Mwanakatwe also says the rehabilitation and reinforcement of the grid will improve security of power supply, reduce power loses and enhance energy efficiency.
Meanwhile, Head of Cooperation at the German Embassy in Lusaka, Christoph Ritz said Germany has provided a grant of 36.5 million Euros through KWF and France has provided a concessional loan of 40 million Euros.
And Head of Cooperation at the EU Delegation to Zambia and COMESA, Gianluca Azzoni has urged the Zambian Government and ZESCO to make the most of the financing package.
